                                The UG department was started in 1966, PG in 1972. The nomenclature of UG department has been changed to Plant Biology and Plant Bio Technology. The department has been offering add-on Course in Certificate/ Diploma/ Advance Diploma levels in Herbal Medicines and Mushroom Cultivation. Offering papers in Genetics and Genomics, Bioinformatics and Computer Application, Bioinstrumentation, Horticultural Techniques, Organic Farming Herbal Cosmetics etc. needs special mentions. Dr. V. Manimegalai has to her credit one completed and one ongoing Major project. Minor projects by faculty and student projects are also undertaken in the department. From 2010 to 2011 0nwards proposal send to the University(Research Center).
